Terminator 2

I feel the director decided to use this shot to show how life went from normal to destructive and war torn. The music is a way to show the foreshadowing of what will happen. The music gives it the feel that something bad will happen; it contradictory to the shots that are being shown. The sound of laughter is a way of showing that life was peaceful and joyous. The red could be a sign of the blood that will be shed in the near future, the war that has cause much disaster and chaos. The line through the city is saying that soon there will no longer be an LA. The lighting then became dark and drab, the scene shows that result of the nuclear bombs and how quickly it happened. In the shot the sun is gone, the atmosphere has become polluted and dark due to the destruction. The screeching of the metal is the only sound among all of the damage that just occurred (there was no more life). The now desolated playground is littered with the skeletons of the people who may have been near by. There was a little girl who was previously swinging innocently on the swing with no way of knowing what was coming next. The pan contains an absence of sound other than the wind that sweeps through the mass of skeletons. The pan then ends with a terminator stepping on and crushing the skull of a human; the job of the terminator was to abolish all human life so there was no mercy when it came to doing so. The next shot puts the viewer in front of the terminator in the midst of the current war. It shows the degree of the situation currently going on. The lighting is shinning on the robot as well as the weapon they are holding; it’s shinning on the threat that is coming for all human life. Considering the year in which this movie was made the special effects work. If it were to have been made more recently then the ability of the editors would be questionable due the technology and knowledge that we currently posses. John Conner is the leader of the resistance so he is highly respected, so the people under him show him respect when passing by. The zoom in on his face shows the importance he will have throughout the movie and. The change in music is the switch between focuses in the narrative. I think with the intro Cameron wants the viewers to see the drastic nature of the story to come. He wants us to understand the idea of disaster, war, overthrow, vengeance.
