To sum up the definition i picked was “…no one knows, it hasn’t happened yet…”. So this definition is basically saying that science fiction is imagination of the possible. They are things that can happen in the future. I also had another good definition in mind that said, “sf is the art of the possible, fantasy is the art of the impossible.” I think these two are the best definitions because it helps to understand that the things happening in sf movies and books can actually happen. For my scene analysis I did Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. While watching the movie you can’t really ever say that these things can’t happen. Thinking about the evolution of humans, it is said that we came from monkeys; but at the same time a lot of animals are very smart. So in the future it is very well possible that an animal can learn how to ride a horse, shoot a gun, build a complex infrastructure, and so on. Science fiction is for entertainment and to let one’s imagination fun free, but who is to say that these things cant happen. In Ex Machina the androids learned how to feel and be manipulative. The world is at a place where we are building fully functional robots and droids who may eventually learn how to feel and figure things out on their own.
